Roodepoort Dance Festival<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Roodepoort Dance Festival is an annual event that is held at the Roodepoort Theatre along Christian de Wet Road in Florida Park.

Numerous dance schools from all over the Westrand participate and compete against one another during this event. Various dance forms are performed during with the first few days showcasing Lyrical Acro, Ballet and Spanish dance and the second half of the festival showcasing modern, tap and hip hop.

The estimated dates for the festival this year are the beginning of September to mid September<\/strong> with the \u201cPrestige Evening\u201d planned to take place on the <\/strong>last day of competitions.

Please note that your daughter will not have to perform every afternoon or evening. <\/em><\/strong>

Her group will be designated a performance time, either afternoon or evening on a specific date that will be confirmed closer to the time when the programme has been arranged. In the event of your daughter\u2019s group being nominated as a \u201cprestige evening qualifier\u201d, the group participants may have to perform on the afternoon and\/or evening of the 16th but this is only on condition that they are awarded a first prize for their first performance. I will be sure to inform you should your daughters group be nominated for this section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the girls from school grade 0 upwards are invited to participate in a group item per subject they participate in which will be choreographed and rehearsed during class times during the week. Some grades may be joined together to make bigger groups so the timetable may change slightly.


Tiny Tots<\/span><\/strong> – will continue with normal classes. Regrettably as they are so young and their technique still requires practice, it is unfair to put unnecessary pressure on them for competition stage work.


Some pupils who show particular talent might be asked to participate in an additional festival item (e.g. a solo, duet, trio or quartet) and this request will be sent in a separate e-mail to those parties selected. It will be at the parent\u2019s discretion for your daughter to participate in any of these additional items, although I would like to emphasise that non-participation in a group item, in favour of a solo, duet etc. is not permitted.

Festival rules stipulate that any child participating in an \u201cadditional item\u201d, such as a solo, duet etc., must participate in a group. I am sure we can all understand the reasons for this as once again \u201cteam work\u201d is the main aim of this event and participants should not be allowed to think that they are \u201cabove\u201d group participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selection of soloists is at the teacher\u2019s discretion and is a decision made carefully with much thought given to the child\u2019s maturity, confidence, performance, and technical ability! Please do not be disappointed if your daughter is not chosen for a solo item \u2013 the main purpose of participating in these types of events is to encourage a love of dance, the skills required to work within a group and ultimately the excitement of live stage performance.

I would also urge those parents and pupils whose children have been selected to do additional items to please not \u201cadvertise\u201d their selection and to accept the opportunity to participate in additional items with grace. Any soloist found to be boasting about their selection will have their dances cancelled immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to the performance, stage rehearsals at the theatre will be required. <\/strong>

Stage rehearsals are scheduled to start from the 18th of August until the 2nd of September<\/strong> and I will confirm exact dates with you closer to the time.

Due to a tight schedule, stage rehearsal times may vary and thus it may be necessary for girls to leave school early to attend these rehearsals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stage rehearsals cannot be missed and it will be the responsibility of the parents to ensure that your daughters attend. The studio will be responsible for transporting the girls to the theatre for rehearsals or performances!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We appreciate that events like this can become costly and thus require careful budgeting. We will thus do our best to allow for payments to be divided up over the next 3 months. Entry fees, however, are due by the 1st of August please as entries go in before the end of July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note that in addition to the costs involved it is crucial that all pupils planning on participating in this event are aware of the commitment involved.
Pupils who do not attend at least 80% of their lessons and are frequently absent will not be permitted to participate. I would also urge parents to please reconsider participation if you plan of being away during any of the dates outlined as having pupils absent towards the end of August when there are possible stage rehearsals and during festival is not an option.

I trust that I have managed to give you as much of an outline to the festival process as is possible and I will be sending a more detailed letter closer to the time. Please make sure you keep this notice for future reference and do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries.

Battu Bris\u00e9 Dance <\/strong>Studio<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation in festivals, competitions, showcases, examinations and year-end concerts is optional, but once committed, participation becomes subject to the following terms and conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By submitting the Festival \/ Competition Entry Form, the parent\/guardian (or adult student) acknowledges and agrees to the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Participation Commitment<\/em><\/strong><\/summary>\n

All students are required to complete the official Entry Commitment Form to confirm whether they will or will not be participating in concerts, showcases, competitions, festivals and examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Submission of the form and digital signature confirms full understanding and acceptance of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • participation expectations,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • rehearsal commitments,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • attendance requirements,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • financial obligations,<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    Failure to submit the form by the stated deadline may result in automatic exclusion from participation.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

    2. Entry Fees<\/strong><\/em><\/summary>\n

    All examination, festival and competition entry fees must be paid in full and upfront<\/strong> by the stated due date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    No entry fee paid = no entry submitted = no participation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Battu Bris\u00e9 will not submit any entries, reserve places, or confirm participation without full payment being received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    All entry fees are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • non-refundable,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • non-transferable,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • and may not be credited toward tuition or any other studio fees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      This includes withdrawals due to illness, injury, scheduling conflicts, or personal circumstances after entry submission.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

      3. Costume Hire<\/em><\/strong><\/summary>\n

      All students participating in concerts, competitions, festivals or showcases will be required to pay a Costume Hire Fee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Costume hire fees must be paid in full by the due date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      No costume hire paid = no costume issued = no participation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      All costumes remain the property of Battu Bris\u00e9 and are hired to students for performance use only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      All hired costumes must be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • returned on time,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • clean,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • complete,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • and in good condition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Any damage to costumes, missing items, or lost accessories will result in additional charges being added to the student\u2019s account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        This includes (but is not limited to):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        and garment bags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        headpieces,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        gloves,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        belts,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        tights,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        props,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        hair accessories,<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

        <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        4. Dancewear, Stockings & Shoes<\/em><\/strong><\/summary>\n

        Students are responsible for arriving with the correct required dancewear, stockings and shoes for rehearsals and performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        If a student arrives without the correct stockings or ballet shoes, Battu Bris\u00e9 may lend studio items where available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        These items will be charged separately in addition to costume hire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Any borrowed studio items must be returned in good condition. Damaged, lost or unusable items must be replaced in full at the student\u2019s expense.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

        <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        5. Hair & Make-Up<\/em><\/strong><\/summary>\n

        Students are responsible for arriving performance-ready with the correct hair and make-up unless prior arrangements have been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        A Hair & Make-Up Assistance Fee<\/strong> will apply should Haleigh van Rooyen be requested to assist with hair and\/or make-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        This fee covers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        • preparation time,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • products,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • tools,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • and restocking costs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Hair and make-up assistance must be booked in advance via the official booking form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          No last-minute bookings will be accommodated.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

          <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          6. Communication of Participation \/ Non-Participation<\/em><\/strong><\/summary>\n

          If a student does not wish to participate in concerts, competitions, festivals, showcases or examinations, written notice must be submitted by the stated deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Notice must be submitted in writing via email only<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          No WhatsApp, SMS, verbal messages or messages via other parents will be accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Failure to decline participation in writing by the stated deadline will be treated as commitment to participate, and applicable costume and preparation fees may still be charged.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

          <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          7. Attendance Requirement<\/em><\/strong><\/summary>\n

          Festivals, competitions and concerts require commitment, discipline and consistent attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Missed classes do not only affect the absent student \u2014 they delay group progress, impact formations, disrupt spacing, affect choreography, and hold back the progress of the entire team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Because of this, consistent attendance is essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Students participating in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \n
          • concerts,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • festivals,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • competitions,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • showcases,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • and examinations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            must maintain strong attendance and attend all required rehearsals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Minimum attendance requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            • Year-End Concerts:<\/strong> minimum 85% attendance<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Festivals \/ Competitions \/ Showcases:<\/strong> minimum 80% attendance<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Stage Rehearsals \/ Dress Rehearsals:<\/strong> compulsory attendance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              Repeated absence, chronic lateness, or failure to attend rehearsals may result in immediate withdrawal from participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              All fees remain payable regardless of withdrawal due to non-attendance.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

              <\/p>\n\n\n\n

              8. Stage Rehearsals & Dress Rehearsals<\/em><\/strong><\/summary>\n

              Stage rehearsals and dress rehearsals are compulsory and non-negotiable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              These rehearsals are essential for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              • spacing,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • technical cues,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • stage orientation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • confidence,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • costume preparation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • and dancer safety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                Late arrival or absence from a stage rehearsal or dress rehearsal may result in immediate withdrawal<\/strong> from the performance, competition or festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                No exceptions will be made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                This policy is in place for the safety of all dancers and the integrity of the performance.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                9. Right of Withdrawal<\/em><\/strong><\/summary>\n

                Haleigh van Rooyen reserves the right to withdraw any student from participation in concerts, festivals, competitions, showcases or examinations where necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                This includes but is not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  \n
                • insufficient attendance,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • repeated lateness,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • missed rehearsals,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • disruptive behaviour,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • failure to learn choreography,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • failure to meet rehearsal expectations,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • unpaid accounts,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • failure to comply with costume, grooming or performance requirements,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • or conduct that negatively affects the group, performance standard or studio reputation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                  All costs incurred up to the point of withdrawal remain payable in full.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  10. Group Placement & Casting<\/summary>\n

                  Placement of students into solos, duets, trios, quartets, groups and examination entries is at the sole discretion of Haleigh van Rooyen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Casting decisions are based on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    \n
                  • attendance,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • commitment,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • ability,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • readiness,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • technical standard,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • maturity,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • and performance suitability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                    All casting and group placement decisions are final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    No changes, substitutions or requests will be accommodated.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    11. Additional Rehearsals & Extra Lessons<\/summary>\n

                    Additional rehearsals, stage practices, private lessons and extra coaching sessions may be added to the schedule during examination, competition, festival and concert preparation periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    These classes are compulsory where scheduled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    Additional fees will be invoiced separately for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    and concert preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    extra rehearsals,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    private coaching,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    examination preparation,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    festival preparation,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    competition preparation<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    12. Choreography Protection<\/summary>\n

                    All choreography remains the intellectual property of Battu Bris\u00e9 and Haleigh van Rooyen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    Under no circumstances may choreography be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                      \n
                    • altered,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    • simplified,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    • reworked,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    • taught externally,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    • or changed by a student, parent, guardian, or outside teacher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                      Any unauthorised choreography changes may result in immediate withdrawal and disqualification from representing Battu Bris\u00e9.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                      <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                      13. Performance Readiness<\/summary>\n

                      Students must arrive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                        \n
                      • on time,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      • fully prepared,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      • correctly dressed,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      • with correct hair,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      • correct make-up,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      • and all required dance items.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                        Failure to arrive performance-ready may result in exclusion from the performance.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                        <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                        14. No Refund Policy<\/summary>\n

                        All fees relating to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                          \n
                        • entries,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        • costume hire,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        • rehearsals,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        • private lessons,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        • extra coaching,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        • and performance preparation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                          are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable once invoiced and\/or paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                          This applies regardless of withdrawal, illness, injury, scheduling conflict, or disqualification.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                          <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                          15. Studio Representation<\/summary>\n

                          All students and parents represent Battu Bris\u00e9 while attending festivals, competitions and performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                          Students and families are expected to conduct themselves respectfully and professionally at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                          Unsportsmanlike behaviour, inappropriate conduct, disrespect toward teachers, adjudicators, fellow dancers, parents or event staff may result in withdrawal from participation and\/or future exclusion from studio events.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                          <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                          16. Acknowledgement <\/summary>\n

                          Festivals, competitions and concerts are an exciting and valuable part of a dancer\u2019s training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                          They provide students with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            \n
                          • performance experience,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          • confidence building,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          • stage discipline,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          • teamwork,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          • resilience,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          • and the opportunity to grow as performers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                            Participation is a privilege and requires commitment, discipline and responsibility from both students and parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            By signing the Entry Commitment Form, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms & Conditions in full.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                            <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Media Release<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Battu Bris\u00e9 may photograph and video performances, rehearsals and events for promotional, educational and social media use unless written objection is submitted in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Injury & Medical Responsibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                            Parents\/guardians acknowledge participation is physical in nature and accept responsibility for ensuring the student is medically fit to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Any injury must be disclosed immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Transport & Supervision<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                            Parents\/guardians remain responsible for transport to and from all rehearsals, competitions, festivals and performances unless otherwise stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Event Delays \/ Third-Party Changes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                            Battu Bris\u00e9 is not responsible for schedule changes, cancellations, delays, adjudication changes, venue changes or third-party event disruptions outside of studio control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Force Majeure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                            Battu Bris\u00e9 will not be held liable for cancellations or disruptions caused by events beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to illness outbreaks, power failures, weather events, venue closures or national disruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

                            Dear parents and dancers, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Please find attached a costing list for those we wish to offer an additional item to for Festival – either in a form of a solo or a duet\/trio\/quartet\/ extra group or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Please remember that some pupils have been selected for participate in the ALL-ROUND division of the festival where they stand to win the age division but must comply by performing 2 solos per genre plus at least 2 other non-solo items, one of which being their group dance which is rehearsed in weekly lesson times.

                            Additional items come at additional cost, outlined on the attached, and we allow for a period of 4 months grace to pay off the extra expenses as we know that, particularly for our senior pupils, costs can become quite overwhelming.

                            Extra time will also be necessary to rehearse these extra items and it is taken on good faith that pupils will be committed, attending all lessons, and putting in the extra time at home to work on corrections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            At all times, it remains at the teacher\u2019s discretion to withdraw items should pupils not be showing the required effort or good attitude to make these performances a success and pupils are reminded to accept the invitation with grace and humility, keeping in mind the feelings of those that, for whatever reason have not been afforded the opportunity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
